UF to offer scholarships for STEM education majors

The National Science Foundation has awarded the University of Florida's College of Education a $1.2 million grant to offer scholarships for math and science majors who go into teaching careers.

According to a news release, the grant will fund scholarships worth $10,000 each for 50 undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering and math fields who commit to teaching at least two years in high-needs public school districts. The grant covers five years of funding.

The scholarships will go to UF students enrolled in UFTeach, a program where students teach in supervised classrooms in high-poverty schools.
